Thousands Join Obama and Biden for One-World Religious Service ...

Washington, D.C. ? Over two thousand people joined Barack Obama and Joseph Biden for an interfaith inaugural service this morning at the Washington National Cathedral, which united the nation?s religions in prayer for the Obama administration.

Attorney General Eric Holder, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer were all stated to be in attendance.

The service included a variety of guests from a number of religions, who presented Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Sikh and Jewish prayers for the president.?Islamic Society of North America President Mohamed Magid delivered an invocation asking that Obama would have??discernment and the self-control necessary to our time,? a Sikh representative asked that all men would have ?concern for our neighbors,? and a Catholic layman spoke of the need for interdependence in America.

?Transform the jangling discourse of our nation into a beautiful symphony of the human family,? prayed Raphael Warnock of Atlanta?s Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. once pastored. ?And through us may the earth and all of the families of the earth be blessed.?

Many of the guests who prayed or spoke were also women ministers. Barbara Williams-Skinner from the National African American Clergy Network appeared at the event, as well as Julie Schonfeld, executive vice president of the Rabbinical Assembly.?Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church offered prayers, and?Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of Washington, also made an appearance in welcoming attendees.

As previously reported, one of the keynote speakers for the event was Adam Hamilton of United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, the largest megachurch within its denomination. Hamilton, who is known as being?the author of the book Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White: Thoughts on Religion, Morality and Politics, delivered a message about finding common ground and working together.

?Over the last two weeks, I?ve been praying a lot. ?God, what would you have me to say to these remarkable people? And the first thing I felt God wanted me to say to you was simply, thank you. Thank you,? he began. ?[Some people] really want to make a difference; they really want to change the world for the better. I believe that represents you and all the people in your administration, and the leadership of our country.?

Hamilton continued by speaking on the life of Moses, whom he called the ?great emancipator,? in light of 2013 marking the 150th year since Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. He stated that people must be humble like Moses, find a common vision and work together.

?You should?ve been a preacher,? Hamilton remarked to Obama, evoking laughter.

?God actually has you exactly where God wants you,? he later added. ?And yesterday you began to lay out a vision for us in your inaugural address that was very powerful and compelling.?

In addition to Hamilton and the other featured guests, the Washington Performing Arts Society?s children?s choir sang ?Determined to Go On? for those present.

This morning?s service was the third that Obama has attended in the past three days. Yesterday, prior to the inaugural service, he attended St. John?s Episcopal across from the White House. Among the guests at the service included Cecile Richards, the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

?Honored to be at church with President Obama this morning,? she Tweeted yesterday morning.

During Monday?s pre-inaugural service, Andy Stanley, son of well-known Baptist preacher Charles Stanley and megachurch pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia, delivered a message in which he reportedly told Obama that he should be called the ?pastor-in-chief.?

?Mr. President, you have an awfully big room,? he said. ?My prayer to you is to leverage that power for the stewardship of our nation.?

Services at Washington National Cathedral following inaugural ceremonies have been a long-held American tradition, spanning 106 years. Earlier this month, the Episcopalian Cathedral announced that it would begin hosting same-sex ceremonies for homosexual couples.

Tea as Drink and Dessert | Dessert Comes First

Delicakes~ cover

At this most unique caf?, tea is the key ingredient in imaginative pairings and infusions.

Joly Poa has an intriguing name ? yes, it?s pronounced like the word ?jolly?; and the natural follow-up question would be: is she really jolly? In addition, the name of her store, Delicakes by Joly ? introduces all sorts of playful conjecture: what does ?Deli-? stand for?

I meet Joly and she seems rather reserved then but as she explains to me in her email later: ?I was really overwhelmed and excited [to meet you].? You?re probably one of the bubbliest people I know. ?And she enlightens me on the etymology of Delicakes: ?[It] was derived from the word ?delicate? as we prepare each product in a delicate manner. But it?s come to mean a number of things which are also relevant to us ? delicious, delightful, or deli as in gourmet. We just wanted a simple name that people will easily remember.?

Delicakes~ White Choco Matcha Cake

In Manila?s vast dessert landscape, I appreciate originality and Joly?s pastries offer just that. She specializes in what she terms as ?tea-infused pastries,? sweet creations touched by tea. Her White Choco Matcha Cake is a re-energized take on that majestic pairing of green tea and white chocolate. It reminds me of the most exquisite of sansrivals, hushed crispness against a luxe backdrop of white and green: chocolate and tea.

Delicakes~ Earl Grey Choco Mousse

Chocolate is one of my true loves and I see it with new eyes in the Earl Grey Choco Mousse. It sits there, a tri-hued wonder in browns and I?m tempted to dismiss it. You know how I feel about mousse but hey, no guts, no dessert. Yes, it?s light and mousse-like but executed skillfully so it flits on the tongue and disappears, leaving only lingering memories of chocolate. I begin to wonder where the tea went but then it tiptoes in on waves of orange, bergamot specifically, and the black tea nuances that?s distinctively Earl Grey. Very clever.

Joly credits her mom for the idea of infusing tea into pastries. ?She used to make ?Tea Eggs,? where whole eggs are boiled in tea,? she explains, ?and at the time, we were also thinking of a concept. We felt that it could work in desserts, too. Everything just came together especially since the market started to know more about tea via bubble teas.?

Delicakes~ tea (1)

Delicakes~ tea (2)

And what good are choice tea-based desserts without choice teas to accompany them? At Delicakes? Magnolia store, I enjoy the Drip-It Tea in various selections. Much like the drip filters used to brew coffee, the entire contraption is served at table and hot water is poured in. Intoxicating aromas abound and it?s fascinating to watch the amber fluid dripping into the glass cup. I?m visiting Delicakes with my friend, Mahar, a self-proclaimed ?tea snob,? and he?s mighty impressed with the teas here. He?s sipping thoughtfully, and we attempt to drink these elegant teas with backs straight and pinkie fingers up as we clutch the cup handles.

Delicakes~ store

While sipping and supping everything tea with Joly and Mahar, I have to laugh when Joly mentions, ?I know our place has an identity crisis because of its size.? She grins. ?It?s really a kiosk but it can seat 18, so I call it my ?floating caf?.?? When you visit the store, you?ll understand why. The caf? is positioned near some glass railings affording one an excellent view of the mall and perhaps some privacy too.

Delicakes~ Milk Tea Cheesecake

There?s a Milk Tea Cheesecake on the menu that I just can?t believe. Rather standard graham cracker crust, the batter itself is imbued with some milk tea, don?t ask me to describe it in greater detail because Joly is equally mum on this, but it?s milk tea no doubt. Then, for an absolutely ingenious finish, the cake?s surface is covered with a ?salty milk cream? similar to Happy Lemon?s Rock Salt Cheese. You?ve got to taste it to believe it, believe you me.

So far, Joly demonstrates exceeding skill with her pastries. She?s completely self-taught and has competed in several baking competitions. What?s astounding to me is that she runs Delicakes with her boyfriend. ?But what is it that people say about never getting into business with friends?? I ask, stupefied. Apparently, they have their respective strengths and it?s working out so far. ?Ah well, if he gives you trouble just throw him in the oven, ? I joke. We laugh wildly. Women should be so lucky that they can get into business with their significant other. My Bin and I wouldn?t last a week in business together without one or both of us ending up dead.

While Delicakes shines with its stellar tea-based offerings, there are also sweets sans tea and which are quite savory. Consider the pies in Tuna or Mushroom & Cheese and the intriguingly named Ox Tongue Cookies. Only partly sweet, I enjoy these with hard cheese and fig jam. The Brownies and Polvoron are rather prosaic but whatever you do, don?t pass up on the Macaroons.

Delicakes~ macaroons

These coconut and condensed milk confections have been relegated to the wayside by their more cosmopolitan cousin, the macaron, but Joly?s macaroons make me remember just how good they can be. In various flavors like Coffee, Chocolate, Ube, Green Tea, Original, and my favorite, Cheese, these are never cloying, just a continuum of chewy-soft and sticky-sweet.

? Corsair Announces Free Software Driver Update to Add Dolby Headphone 7.1-channel Surround Sound to Vengeance 2000 Wireless Gaming Headset ?

CES 2013 - Las Vegas, Nevada - January 8, 2013 - Corsair?, a worldwide designer of high-performance PC gaming peripherals, today announced next-generation additions to the premier Corsair Vengeance? line of gaming keyboards, mice, and mouse mats. Also announced is an upcoming free software driver update for the Vengeance 2000 wireless gaming headset which adds Dolby? Headphone 2.0 7.1-channel surround sound.
"Our first generation keyboards and mice were designed to translate thoughts into action with ruthless efficiency," said Ruben Mookerjee, VP and General Manager of the Peripherals Business Unit at Corsair. "We've honed that competitive advantage to a new level of precision with the Vengeance K95, M95, and M65, creating next-generation mice and keyboards to help keep gamers at the top of the leaderboards."

Vengeance K95 Gaming Keyboard: The New Top-dog

To create the Vengeance K95 keyboard, the Corsair design team started with the successful and award-winning K90 and added a never-before-seen level of precision, technology, and styling. The result is the Vengeance K95, the most advanced keyboard in the Vengeance gaming line. Now clad in a black anodized brushed aluminum chassis and luminous white LED lighting, the Vengeance K95 keyboard has been upgraded with Cherry MX Red key mechanical switches on every key including the function and macro keys. Each key is now individually backlit, enabling the keys to be independently enabled or disabled, and overall backlighting can be adjusted to four levels of intensity. The keyboard includes 18 dedicated macro keys that can be programmed via software or on-the-fly and both macros and lighting profiles can be stored in onboard flash memory. The Vengeance K95 also features full anti-ghosting, 20-key rollover, and a 1ms reporting rate.

Vengeance M95 and M65 Gaming Mice: Precision-tuned and Dangerous than Ever
Designed for serious gamers, the Vengeance M95 and M65 mice are built upon an ergonomic aluminum unibody chassis and fitted with an Avago Technologies ADNS-9800 LaserStream? gaming sensor. The new 8200 DPI sensor provides a 30% boost in tracking resolution versus last generation mice, for increased speed and lethal precision when moving, looking, and targeting. The new mice incorporate new ruggedized, high-precision button switches for rapid triggering and solid durability. In addition, both mice feature on-the-fly resolution switching, programmable lift detection, a high-mass scroll wheel, and PTFE glide pads.
The Vengeance M95 is optimized for MMO gamers. It has 15 fully programmable buttons, arranged and tuned for intuitive operation, and on-board flash memory to store macros in up to six profiles that can be switched on-the-fly. An included intuitive Microsoft? Windows? software utility allows management of macro keys, on-board profiles, and sensor settings to allow gamers to customize the M95 to match their gaming style. The Vengeance M95 is available in two colors, Arctic White and Gunmetal Black.

The Vengeance M65 is designed for FPS enthusiasts. It features an innovative Sniper button, allowing an instant toggle from fast movement, high DPI-resolution mode down to a high-precision mode for more accurate aiming. Its aluminum body has an adjustable center of gravity to allow gamers to balance the mouse to their preference. The Vengeance M65 is available in three colors Military Green, Arctic White and Gunmetal Black.
Vengeance MM600 Dual-sided Gaming Mat ? Choose High-speed or Precision to Match Your Game

The MM600 is double-sided mat designed with foundation of a solid piece of 3mm thick aircraft-grade aluminum to provide a flatter, more rigid surface and no-slip rubber corners to minimize slippage during frenzied gaming sessions. Each side of the mat has a high-quality polymer surface that has been tuned to deliver distinct glide characteristics. The smooth-texture side is designed to provide an exceptional high-speed glide, while the heavy-texture side is designed to deliver superior control. Both surface materials have excellent characteristics for high-precision sensors like those found in Corsair's laser gaming mice.
Vengeance 2000 Wireless Gaming Headset ? Now with Dolby 7.1-channel surround sound
Corsair will soon release a free software driver update which adds Dolby Headphone 2.0 to the Vengeance 2000 Wireless gaming headset. Dolby? Busy Philipps happy with 'Cougar Town' move to TBS

(AP) ? "Cougar Town" makes its move from ABC to TBS on Tuesday, premiering its fourth season, and Busy Philipps couldn't be happier.

The 33-year-old actress recalled in a recent interview how the cast was assured by creator and executive producer Bill Lawrence that the comedy wouldn't be canceled, but he couldn't elaborate.

Some of her co-stars were taping TV pilots for other possible jobs, Philipps said. "But I'm at ICM, which handled the deal with 'Cougar Town,' and TBS, and (co-star and Lawrence's wife) Christa Miller is also with them. Both our agents were like, 'No, you're not gonna do any pilots.' So that was a little suspicious. They knew something we didn't know."

Lawrence has a history of keeping his critically acclaimed ? but maybe not ratings-magnet ? shows alive. His comedy "Scrubs" aired for seven seasons on NBC before switching to ABC.

With "Cougar Town" now on cable, Philipps said the writers are able to push the envelope a little more. "There was one joke in particular by another character that Standards and Practices wouldn't let us air when we were on network and I was so bummed when it was cut from the script and it made it into the show this year, so I was really excited about that."

Still, she cautioned, "Cougar Town" is on a basic cable station. "It's not HBO. I'm not having 'True Blood'-type sex scenes."

Philipps said she enjoys showcasing her comedic chops.

"I was always a very quirky kid. I remember very early like fourth or fifth grade doing pratfalls to make my friends laugh, like falling on the ground on the playground and doing like bits and characters," she said.

On "Cougar Town," Philipps plays Laurie Keller, a real estate assistant to Courteney Cox's Jules, who has infiltrated her group of friends. She's fun-loving, ditzy and has a history of one-night stands.

Philipps said she does "nerd out" by challenging herself to make each of Laurie's outrageous stories or comments sound different from the one before.

The actress, who is expecting her second child, said the pregnancy has made her forgetful.

"I had a major case of pregnancy brain and had accidentally stolen my friend's car keys and put them in my purse and left my cellphone at her house, and I was explaining to my husband in the kitchen that I needed him to go back and get my stuff, and my daughter (4-year-old Birdie), we didn't even know she was listening, said, 'Mama, I think that baby in your tummy is makin' ya crazy.' Perfectly sums it up!" she said.
